Price for painting work

In order for us to give you an estimate of the cost of the work done, it is important that one of our appraisers be able to go to your home to find out the scope of the mandate. Thanks to his long expertise, he will be able to give you a fairly precise estimate as well as the time frame over which the work will be carried out, because he will have observed all the points to be considered on site. ​

Your questions will be answered

Whether it is for the residential or commercial sector, isn't it often offered to us to receive free information from a painting professional? So be sure to prepare all your questions so that you don't forget any when our painting expert visits the premises to make his estimate. It is even recommended to write them down before his arrival. That way, you won't inadvertently skip any of them. ​

The expert will be able to answer you and inform you about the relevant products to apply, as the case may be.  You may also be interested in his advice on choosing tones that harmonize well with those that cover the walls of your other rooms. And if you are planning a very specific change, don't forget to let him know as well, so that he can guide you in the best possible way to make it happen. ​

Area in square feet

One of the most important elements we need to consider when making a good cost estimate is the size of the areas to be covered. This is not necessarily an easy task. Nevertheless, the procedure consists of multiplying the values you obtain with a measuring tape for the width and height of your walls, while taking the trouble to do so for each of the rooms to be refreshed. The ceiling should not be forgotten if it is to be repainted as well. You only have to calculate the multiplication of the width and depth of the room in question to deduct the surface area. There is nothing better than an example to understand this. So let's assume we have a room that is 14 feet deep by 9 feet high by 20 feet wide. 
 
Wall 1: 14 feet x 9 feet=126 square feet 
Wall 2: 15 feet x 9 feet=135 square feet 
Wall 3: 15 feet x 9 feet=135 square feet 
Wall 4: 14 feet x 9 feet=126 square feet 
Ceiling: 14 feet x 15 feet=210 square feet 

The sum of the areas of each of the walls and ceiling in this example gives 732 square feet. This is the area that needs to be painted. This allows us to evaluate the quantity of gallons of paint that the project will require. This data also allows us to evaluate the price and the duration of the task. ​

Work in elevation

Sometimes the work has to be done at a certain height due to the configuration of the premises. The estimator must determine if specialized equipment is required for safety reasons. Only scaffolding may be relevant. In some cases, however, a basket may be required. You can see that we are concerned about the safety of our personnel as well as the impeccable rendering of the work done. ​

How many coats of paint?

When estimating the number of layers of paint to be applied, a number of factors need to be considered. In particular, the quality required, of course. Secondly, is there already paint on the wall or ceiling? If not, a primer is required, which will be covered by 2 coats of paint. If so, it is not necessary to apply a protective coat beforehand. Finally, depending on whether the color to be covered is light or dark, the number of coats to be applied may vary. Sometimes 3 coats are necessary, especially when light must mask dark. ​

How many colors?

Assuming you're a color enthusiast, you may want more than one color on one wall? Be aware that this requires more prior organization, and therefore, an additional amount of money should be budgeted accordingly. 
Repaint the exterior

Presence of furniture or objects in the room​

As you can imagine, an empty room is easier to paint than a very crowded one. When freedom of movement is at its optimum, work is accelerated, even more efficient. So, if this is a possibility, it is really preferable to empty the premises. If you are moving in, this means that it would be wise to postpone the date after the work. Of course, such an arrangement may not be possible. Rest assured that in the event that none of these preferable situations can be done, our experts will take the precaution of protecting your furniture and other objects to avoid staining or breaking them during the work. ​

Cutting​

Cutting consists of spreading paint around the perimeter of the surface to be painted. It is an essential step that requires meticulousness. The more windows, doors, mouldings, electrical outlets, light fixtures... the longer this task will take. This time must be factored into the planning of the duration of the mandate we will do with you, and at the same time, we will set a time that is conducive to the realization of your project.
